I love storytelling
As a child I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.
Now that I'm a composer I still love the way story, visual and music complement each other and can work together!
I build Sound Worlds
First I ask the question: what does this world sound like? That could mean many different things, for example: what kind of music would the protagonist listen to? Is this world realistic, or more fantastical. Is it futuristic or old school?
The second question is: what is the emotional subcontext of the story. What do we want an audience to feel? When the story ends, what feeling would we like them to have?
The future of film music
I think Hans Zimmer is taking this idea of Sound Worlds to the next level. Especially in the Dune series he wondered: what would music sound 10,000 years in the future? They went as far as developing entirely new instruments. I believe this is the future of film music - the music being a completely immersive aspect of the film, the same way as new instruments are invented for science - fiction. I love sound design and I give each project it's unique sound and character according to the wishes of the director!
